The Hills is a village in Travis County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,613 at the 2020 census, making it the largest village in Texas. It is a suburb of Austin. There were 585 households, out of which 30.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 82.1% were married couples living together, 2.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 14.0% were non-families. 12.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 5.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 2.77. In the village, the population was spread out, with 22.7% under the age of 18, 3.2% from 18 to 24, 22.5% from 25 to 44, 33.0% from 45 to 64, and 18.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 46 years. For every 100 females, there were 100.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.6 males. The Hills is an upscale community located west of Farm Road 620 about sixteen miles west-northwest of downtown Austin in western Travis County. The master-planned gated community was in development by the 1990s and centered on Hurst Creek and The Hills Country Club. The facility included a highly-rated golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus. By 2000 the community had incorporated, and it operated under the governing bodies of a property owners association and a board of aldermen. The Hurst Creek Municipal Utilities District supplied water and sewer services. Highway maps labeled the community as "The Village of The Hills." In 2000 the population was 1,492.
