Garden Ridge is a city in Comal County, Texas, United States, incorporated in 1972. The population was 4,186 at the 2020 census, up from 3,259 at the 2010 census. Garden Ridge is part of the Texas German belt region, and area settled by German emigrants in the mid 1800s. Many residents of Garden Ridge are ancestors of these German emigrants. It is part of the San Antonio metropolitan statistical rea. Garden Ridge is on Interstate Highway 35 near the Bexar and Guadalupe county lines twelve miles southwest of New Braunfels in Comal County. When the community was incorporated on April 4, 1972, it became the first new town in the county in 127 years. It had a population of 230 in 1972 and 647 in 1980. In 1990 Garden Ridge, probably due to its location in the area of heavy growth between San Antonio and Austin, had a population of 1,450. Of the 704 households, 29.7% had children under 18 living with them, 83.7% were married couples living together, 3.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 11.6% were not families. About 9.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 4.7% had someone living alone who was 65 or older. The average household size was 2.67, and the average family size was 2.85. In the city, the age distribution was 22.5% under 18, 4.1% from 18 to 24, 18.3% from 25 to 44, 40.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.9% who were 65 or older. The median age was 47 years. For every 100 females, there were 100.9 males. For every 100 females aged 18 and over, there were 96.0 males.
